The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) is a government initiative that was established during the military regime. It’s aim is to engage Nigerian graduates in the nation’s growth and development.
While there is no compulsory military conscription in Nigeria, since 1973, university and polytechnic graduates have been mandated to partake in the NYSC program for a year, known as the national service year. Ahmadu Ali held the position of the inaugural Director-General until 1975, with the current Director-General being Yusha’u Dogara Ahmed.
