List of Illegal Universities in Nigeria (NUC List)

The National Universities Commission (NUC) helps ensure the quality of Nigerian universities. It was established in 1962 and became an official group in 1974. NUC is located in Abuja and is part of the Federal Ministry of Education. It has grown from a small office to a major part of the government. It works on improving and managing university education in Nigeria.

As a result of their activities, the NUC occasionally sends delegates to inspect tertiary institutions located in Nigeria to see if they have what it takes to function as a University in the country. One of the criteria for functioning in Nigeria is the presence of a fully equipped library.

So, therefore prospective undergraduates are advised to conduct thorough research on the school they want to study in. Recently, the National Universities Commission (NUC) published a list containing illegal universities functioning in Nigeria. What this means is the Universities in the list as seen below are not recognised in Nigeria and any certificate collected from these so-called institutions is null and void.
